3M™ Protection Wrap Film is paint protection film that comes in colors. You get the appearance of a color change and the protection of PPF in a single layer — which is why it is priced like PPF, because it is PPF.
Who PWF is for
People who were going to do a color change and then also wanted the paint protected, and did not want two films on the same car.
Choose this if
- You want the color changed and the paint protected from stone chips
- The car sees highway miles and you care about the front end
- You would otherwise be pricing clear PPF plus a wrap
- You want a self-healing film — 3M state minor scratches disappear with heat
Choose something else if
- You only care about the color — color-change vinyl costs $4,000 less
- You want a mirror chrome finish, which PWF does not do
- You have a bare stainless Cybertruck and want a warranted install — read the note below first

It installs like PPF, not like vinyl
We install PWF using a dry PPF process, which is what 3M specify for this film — not the wet method conventional clear PPF is applied with. It is a different job from a vinyl wrap and it is not interchangeable with one.
- Dry application, per 3M’s own product bulletin
- 7.5–9 mil depending on color — 3M state at least 70% thicker than typical vinyl
- Cold-stretch capable, conformable into deep recesses
- Removable: 3M publish a removal procedure — professional, heat, 30–60° peel angle

From $10,000
A $3,000 deposit reserves the project and comes off the total. The gap to a color-change wrap is material, not labor — a full vehicle in PWF runs into thousands of dollars of film before anyone touches the car.
On a bare Cybertruck, 3M do not warrant PWF on stainless. We have done it and it can work, but it sits outside the manufacturer’s warranty, and you should hear that from us before you pay a deposit rather than after.

- Northern Virginia: $1,000 flat removal fee.
- Outside Northern Virginia: the $1,000 removal fee plus travel, quoted for your location and agreed before travel is confirmed.
It does not cover every situation. Unusually difficult removal, excessive adhesive, multiple layers, severely deteriorated film or other abnormal conditions are reviewed and priced before work proceeds — we tell you, we do not surprise you.
The awkward questions.
Is 3M Protection Wrap Film the same as PPF?
It is PPF — a polyurethane paint protection film, the same class of material as clear PPF, in color. What it is not is a vinyl wrap, and calling it one would be wrong. If it helps, think of it as color-change PPF.
Why does it cost so much more than a vinyl wrap?
The material. A full vehicle in PWF is thousands of dollars of film before any labor. It is roughly twice the thickness of color-change vinyl and it is priced like the protection product it is, not like a decorative one.
Does it really self-heal?
That is 3M’s claim about their material and we will point you at their product bulletin rather than paraphrase it: 3M state that minor scratches disappear when heat is applied. It applies to light surface marks, not to impact damage, and we are not going to stretch it further than 3M do.
Can you put PWF on a Cybertruck?
Yes, and we have. The thing you need to know first is that a bare Cybertruck is stainless steel and 3M do not warrant PWF on stainless. The film can work there; the manufacturer’s warranty does not follow it. For a lot of Cybertruck owners, color-change vinyl is the better-matched answer — ask us and we will walk you through both rather than sell you the more expensive one.
